Nominations for the prestigious Raymarine/YJA Yachtsman of the Year and Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year awards were officially opened at the Southampton Boat Show by current title holders Dee Caffari and Katie Miller (respectively) – along with Raymarine International Marketing Communications Manager, Fiona Pankhurst, powerboat champion, Shelley Jory, and round Britain sailor, Geoff Holt.

AIS technology enables automatic voiceless exchange of vessel and navigational information between vessel or shore station equipped with AIS receivers. This enables both shore stations and other vessels to identify the vessel name, MMSI number, radio call sign, type of ship and cargo identity, as well as dynamic information such as course, speed, rate of turn and heading.

Quadriplegic Sailor Breaks World Record

Disabled yachtsman, Geoff Holt (40), has completed his challenge to be the first disabled person ever to sail solo around the coast of Great Britain - a voyage of more than 1,600 miles.

One man’s Personal Everest takes him to Isle of Man in solo sail around Britain

Bill Bevan and Angus Rutherford from local Raymarine electronics dealer Bevan’s Ltd are on standby as disabled sailor Geoff Holt approaches the Isle of Man. Due to arrive in Port St Mary, the quadriplegic is attempting to sail over 1600 miles solo around Britain in a 15 foot Challenger trimaran. He describes this as his ‘Personal Everest’. It is a very apt description. It is a monumental undertaking for someone who is paralysed from the chest down.

Dee Caffari (current Raymarine/YJA Yachtsman of the Year) and Katie Miller (current Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year) will be among those opening the nominations.
