Upgrading the software of a CP450

The CP450C can be upgraded via a a/c/e/gS Series MFD.  You will also need:

  • a commonly available microSD memory card (16GB or smaller)
  • a memory card reader for your PC or Apple Mac computer,
  • a microSD to SD memory card adapter or a microSD to CompactFlash memory card adapter,
  • and the latest Raymarine CP450 software.

Note: microSD memory cards used with a/c/e Series MFDs should have a memory capacity of no less than 256MB and no more than 32GB. To avoid potentially corrupting the data on your Navionics chart card, DO NOT copy software update files to your Navionics chart card and DO NOT back up waypoint/route/track data to your Navionics chart card. MicroSD cards are commonly available in most stores selling consumer electronics products. Waypoint, route, track data, and system configuration data can be stored on a microSD memory card which also contains software update files.

Populating a microSD/Compact Flash Memory Card with CP450 Software

  1. Insert a compatible memory card for the display you are to use into the computer's memory card reader or into a memory card reader which has been interfaced to the computer.
  2. Select the appropriate software download for your product from HERE
  3. Upon completion of the download, click on the downloaded file to open it
  4. Copy all files to the Root of the card (Root is the first level you access when selecting the card).  Make sure the files are not in any folders on the card

For example, if your computer has assigned Removable Disk (E:) to your memory card reader/writer, then the software update files (i.e. the DOB and PKG files alone) should be copied directly to Removable Disk (E:), not to any folders created on the memory card.

  5. Remove the memory card from the computer's memory card reader.

Upgrade procedure

Although you can upgrade the CP450C with a Transducer connected, I have written these instructions with no Transducer, which means when both the MFD & CP450C are powered and connected on RayNet, the CP450C will flash Amber every second to indicate “Transducer Disconnected”.

First load the Upgrade App file – v2.01, into the CP450C:

1. Start with both the CP450C and the MFD powered off, but connected together via RayNet.

2. Copy the Cp450cUpgradeAppV2_01R.pkg file along with the two remote upgrade files onto a microSD card and insert it into the MFD (see Pic1). Your MFD must be running on application v7.43 or higher.

3. Power up the CP450C & the MFD and let the “Remote Upgrade v2_01” file run. The MFD should automatically acquire the CP450C on RayNet and program the unit.

4. During programming, the CP450C will show a brief solid Red LED, and then Green flashes followed finally by Amber.

5. Once the MFD shows “Upgrade Complete – Press OK to exit”, remove the MicroSD Card & Press OK.

6. You must now power cycle the CP450C in order for the Upgrade App to be unpacked and to finish installing.

7. When the CP450C has fully re-booted, the MFD should show either the warning message “Installation has changed” on screen, or you can see the FISH SONAR symbol animated. The CP450C LED should be flashing amber indicating “Transducer disconnected”

8. Once you see one of these statuses on screen, you are ready to install the application v3.09 into the CP450C

Now load the Application file– v3.09, into the CP450C:

1. Start with both the CP450C and the MFD powered off, but connected together via RayNet.

2. Load the Cp450cAppV309R.pkg file along with the two Remote Upgrade files onto a MicroSD card and insert it into the MFD (see Pic2).

a. Note: Ensure you remove the previous Cp450cUpgradeApp-v2_01R.pkg from the MicroSD card.

3. Power both the MFD & the CP450C on and let the MFD run the “Remote Upgrade” script from the MicroSD card. It should automatically acquire the CP450C on RayNet and program the unit with v3.09.

4. Whilst programing the CP450C the LED will show SOLID Amber.

5. Once the MFD states “Upgrade Complete” the SOLID amber LED on the CP450C will eventually revert to a flashing amber LED indicating “Transducer Disconnected”.

6. You then must power cycle the CP450C in order to finish the installation process. On re-boot, the CP450C will unpack the application file just received on RayNet and will load it into memory. Whilst doing this, a RED LED will appear, followed by solid amber. Eventually it will revert back to flashing amber every second.

7. Remove the MicroSD card from the MFD and press Ok to reboot. Enter the MFD diagnostics menu to check the CP450C revision states v3.09.

8. It’s recommended you perform a reset on the CP450C and that any depth offset calibration is checked.

9. Test the CP450C to ensure it is operating as expected.

The CP450C is now upgraded to v2.01 & v3.09 software.
