Raymarine Ambassador Shelley Jory brings 2012 Olympic Flag to Southampton
|
|
Raymarine ambassador Shelley Jory took part in her home City's Olympic Flag handover celebrations plus she competed in a classic power boat race.
Shelley started Southampton's flag relay on the water, waving a giant 2012 flag from the bow of the classic power boat GEE and then handed it over to four teams of rowers. Shelley then raced to the Civic Centre to join the Mayor of Southampton as he raised the flag, accompanied by the sounds and sights of traditional Chinese Lion and Dragon dances.
On Saturday 23 August, Shelley took the helm of the same classic power boat, GEE to compete in the famous power boat race, the Cowes-Torquay. Shelley took on some of the world's best power boaters in the dash to Torquay and back to Cowes. In the tough, competitive sprint to the line off the Royal Yacht Squadron Shelley powered GEE into third place in class and took the Ladies Trophy.
Shelley continues her racing in P1 with Team Lucas Oil at the Spanish Grand Prix from 12-14 September.

Undoubtedly our eyes will be on the Olympic and Paralympic sailors during their events in Beijing this month, but likewise it could be someone you know from your local club who has overcome adversity or shown exceptional bravery.
Nominations open on Friday 12 September on the Raymarine stand G88 at the PSP Southampton Boat Show.
