Raymarine ambassador Shelley Jory made her mark in the first of the 2008 P1 Powerboat series by leading the first race, and coming second overall in the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea standings. Jory was racing for the first time in the Evolution class in her new boat, #77 Lucas Oil, competing with team owner and throttleman Nigel Hook at the new venue of San Benedetto del Tronto in Italy.
The historic yacht Lively Lady is en route to Egypt, due to arrive at the beginning of May following a three week sail from India. This leg crosses the Arabian Sea before the yacht heads into the Gulf of Aden and up into the Red Sea to reach the Suez Canal.
Raymarine, race partner of the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, is offering competitors the opportunity to receive weather and tidal information via free SMS text messages and/or email. In addition, there will be a full and detailed weather briefing at the Island Sailing Club, Cowes at 1800 on the 27 June for competitors, club race officers and safety boat crews.
The Round Britain Powerboat Race is a huge endurance battle of 1,600 nautical miles round the treacherous coast line of Britain that will test most boats and crews to their limits. However, competitors will have a helping hand, both before and during the event, as Raymarine has joined forces with the organisers to offer free product support for the entire race.
