At 75 years of age legendary navigator, offshore powerboat racer and self-confessed speed freak Dag Pike will be the oldest competitor when 2008 Round Britain Offshore Power Boat Race starts on Saturday 21 June. He will also be one of the most experienced, having raced in every Round Britain since its inception in 1969, and was the winner of the overall race in 1984.
With 48 boats in eight different classes from 7.5 to 13 metres (24-45 feet), eight legs covering some 1,424 nautical miles around Britain, and around 200 people taking part, there will be plenty of opportunities to be nominated as the recipient of the new Raymarine ‘Sprit of the Event’ Trophy to be awarded for the first time in the 2008 Round Britain Offshore Power Boat Race.

The historic yacht Lively Lady is en route to Egypt, due to arrive at the beginning of May following a three week sail from India. This leg crosses the Arabian Sea before the yacht heads into the Gulf of Aden and up into the Red Sea to reach the Suez Canal.

In addition, there will be a full and detailed weather briefing at the Island Sailing Club, Cowes at 1800 on the 27 June for competitors, club race officers and safety boat crews.
The Round Britain Powerboat Race is a huge endurance battle of 1,600 nautical miles round the treacherous coast line of Britain that will test most boats and crews to their limits. However, competitors will have a helping hand, both before and during the event, as Raymarine has joined forces with the organisers to offer free product support for the entire race.
