November 2006 ~ Raymarine is launching two new autopilots at METS. The S1 Wheel pilot and S1 Tiller pilot draw on Raymarine’s 30 years of expertise in autopilot technology, and use the latest Raymarine SmartPilot course computers for optimum performance and course handling.
Designed for vessels ranging typically from 25-40 foot, the S1 Tiller pilot comes in two versions. The S1 Plus Tiller pilot is an all purpose system, while the Grand Prix is suited for extended cruising. With the effectiveness and efficiency of the autopilot dependent on the weight displacement of the vessel, the Plus is designed for a maximum displacement of 6,000 kg, while the Grand Prix can handle up to 7,500 kg.
The S1 Tiller pilots benefit from SmartPilot course computer technology and are gyro enabled, giving them razor-sharp course keeping. They do not require a rudder reference transducer to be fitted, making them remarkably easy to install. The S1 Tiller links to Raymarine’s ST6002 control head, and can be interfaced to additional control heads via NMEA and SeaTalk. The S1 Tiller pilots can be operated remotely using Raymarine’s S100 and SmartPilot wireless remote controllers.
The S1 Wheel pilot also offers ultimate autopilot control and performance for wheel steered vessels. Suitable for a displacement weight of up to 7,500 kg, the S1 Wheel pilot has been developed from Raymarine’s rugged and proven MkII wheel drive, used throughout the world by top class racers and single handed sailors. The SmartPilot course computer and patented fluxgate compass are mounted separately for optimum performance. The S1 Wheel has a simple clutch engagement mechanism, for ease of use and quick engagement or disengagement as required.
The S1 Wheel unit connects to a ST6002 control head, as well as interfacing with additional control heads if required. The S1 Wheel unit can also be operated remotely using the S100 or SmartPilot hand held remote controller.
Available through Raymarine’s worldwide sales and support network, the S1 Wheel pilot and S1
Tiller pilots cost from £700 or €1,036.50.
