October 2009 - Raymarine presented the first BMEA (British Marine Electronics Association) Newly Certificated Technician of the Year award at the BMEA’s annual conference. The award was made to Roger Upham of Roger Upham Marine Electronics Ltd. Based in Chichester, the company has over 30 years of experience installing marine electronics products. Roger recently completed the BMET (British Marine Electrical Technican) training and received his certification this year, making him eligible to enter the award.
Derek Gilbert, Customer Support Manager at Raymarine said he was delighted to present the trophy for the first time. “Raymarine has been a leading advocate for the BMET training, and in encouraging agents and dealers to become certificated. This qualification helps give customers the confidence that they are buying from and having equipment installed by people who have received the best and most up-to-date training. I am delighted that Roger received this award, which was made in recognition of his outstanding service and customer care.”
2009 sees the first presentation of the Raymarine Newly Certificated Technician of the Year trophy at the BMEA awards, which will now become an annual event. The BMET requires candidates to have experience working as marine electrical technicians, as well as undertaking training on best practice and working within the BMEA Code of Practice. Candidates also have to complete an examination to receive full certification.
