Top meteorologist, Libby Greenhalgh, who is Met Office trained and the Royal Yachting Association’s Olympic squad weather forecaster, will present the Raymarine Weather Briefing on the eve of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race.

Developments in weather patterns prior to a big race can have a huge impact on tactics, so as well as the live Weather Briefing, Libby will offer a series of online weather briefing videos providing advance weather and tactics advice in the days leading up to the race.

The free video updates, available on the Raymarine website - - will give daily analysis of the weather patterns as they build, set against tidal predictions which competitors can use to start to build their tactical strategy ahead of the race. The Raymarine Weather Briefing is designed to give competitors a detailed understanding of the weather patterns and tidal activity at key waypoints during the race.

Raymarine’s award-winning RayTech RNS navigation software will demonstrate the weather forecast for race day, which will include the progression of tides, currents, wind speed and direction for the Isle of Wight and surrounding waters.


A past Cowes Week winner and an experienced Solent sailor - with successes in the Mumm 30 and J105 classes - Libby will combine her high level sailing knowledge with her meteorological expertise to outline expected conditions and provide practical advice. There will also be a chance for Q&As.

The briefing is relevant to anyone competing in the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race - first timers, families, amateurs and professionals competing at the highest level.

The Raymarine Weather Briefing enables competitors to integrate critical weather and tidal information into their on-board navigation system. After a final online weather check on the day of the race, onboard electronics will continue to update throughout the race, providing vital, minute by minute data, with additional input from aids such as AIS, radio communications and radar.

Having this vital information could make all the difference in this tightly contested historic competition, as racers compete for line honours.
